In areas where the noise levels are only occasionally high, it is unreasonable to ask staff to wear hearing protection all the time. However, it can be very difficult for staff to know when the time to fit protection has arrived, especially as the sensitivity of the hearing declines during the day, even in moderate and safe noise levels.
